The villa is an ideal base from which to explore the Algarve's many beautiful beaches, towns and villages. A hire car is recommended for your visit however, if you would rather not drive during your stay, the local bus company EVA operate a reliable and inexpensive service between the surrounding towns and villages. The owners desk at the Gramacho reception will also be very happy to assist you with your travel plans on a daily basis and book you a taxi if required.

The Algarve Uncovered website contains all you need to know about this 200km stretch of coastline. This is an invaluable source of information covering everything from history, culture, beaches, eating out, nightlife, leisure activities and shopping. The site also contains a number of photographs and videos to give you a true flavour of what to expect.

The following towns and villages are within a short drive of the villa and are well worth a visit:

Sesmarias is about a 20 minute walk from the villa. Although one of the smaller villages in the area, it is home to a few exceptional restaurants including the upmarket Bon Bon and Casa Rustica as well as the excellent pizzeria Da Donato.

One thing you won't be short of in Carvoeiro is somewhere to eat and drink! There is a huge selection of bars, restaurants and cafés all within easy walking distance of the centre and with a wide choice of food. The town beach, Praia do Carvoeiro is a beautifully sheltered sandy bay and spreads out just in front of the square with cliffs protecting it on either side.

Silves - enchanting town littered with orange and lemon trees, sitting on the banks of the Rio Arade and home to the fantastic seafood restaurant Casa Velha. The Medieval Festival held each year in August is well worth a visit.

Ferragudo is a beautiful fishing village with a lovely beach and some terrific seafood restaurants.

Portimão is the biggest town in the western Algarve and sits on the bank of the Arade river facing Ferragudo on the opposite bank. Portimão's atlantic beach of Praia da Rocha has, over the years, become a resort in it's own right with lots of hotels and apartments, restaurants and bars, discos and clubs and shops.
